Yes. It’s freeware with no feature limits, licence keys or expiry. Donations are welcome but never required. See the licence for the terms.
No. PatchWalker is agentless: it manages Windows over WinRM (HTTPS) and Linux over SSH. There’s nothing to install on the machines you manage.

The installer isn’t code-signed yet, so SmartScreen shows a caution. Verify the download’s SHA-256 against the value on the Download page, then choose More info → Run anyway.
You install it on one Windows machine — the Controller — and use its web console. Your managed machines need no software.
PatchWalker runs entirely on your Controller and talks only to your machines (and, where you enable it, to Microsoft/Ubuntu update sources). It has no usage telemetry. The website uses Google Analytics to understand usage and improve the site — see the privacy page.
